PS3 VS 360: Price Comparison After Price Drops

For the first post RDG decided to take a look at the cost differences for both consoles since they have both received price cuts recently. This will be a quick and painless comparison. We know that many deals exist out there and so to try to be as fair as possible we will be using the online pricing from the biggest major retailer Walmart. We will try to use the lowest available prices for any items needed. We will also be using the buying perspective of a hardcore gamer/movie lover someone who wants a great high definition movie and gaming experience. So for this buyer we will say that he or she wants the following items: most expensive version of the console, 1 game, 1 extra controller, hdmi, wifi, wireless headset ,dedicated remote control for movie viewing and high definition movie capabilities.

Sony PlayStation 3
80GB = $599.82
Extra Controller = $49.82
1 Game = $59.82
Xtreme HD HDMI = $19.94
Blu-ray Remote = $24.92
Blutooth Headset(Philips Vox120) = $18.88
PS3 Total = $773.20

Microsoft Xbox 360
Elite 120GB = $449.82
Extra Controller = $37.82
HD DVD Add-on = $179.82
1 Game = $59.82
WiFi = $88.82
Wireless Headset = $59.82
360 Total = $875.92

So the totals come to $773.20 for the PS3 and $875.92 for the 360 a difference of $102.72. Now this can be looked at in different ways. Here are a couple notes you can take from this analysis.

1. PS3 comes with a free game on top of saving $102.72.
2. 360 you get 40GB of more space for your content.

In conclusion its up to the consumer to decide where they shop which console and which accessories they want and which one overall presents the best value for their lifestyle and needs. RDG recommends this tip on how to decide which console is best for you. Look at the already released and upcoming releases for each platform and see which one has the games that fit you the best. That way no matter how much you spend or what options you choose you will be happy with your purchase.
Here are 5 upcoming exclusive titles on each console releasing this year worth looking into.
PS3
Warhawk 8/28/07
Lair 9/4/07
Heavenly Sword 9/12/07
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools Of Destruction 10/23/07
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune 11/20/07
360
Bioshock 8/21/07
Blue Dragon 8/28/07
Project Gotham Racing 4 9/11/07
Halo 3 9/25/07
Mass Effect 11/1/07

This is my first post so in time my editing and pictures will get better.

Sony PlayStation 3
60GB = $499.82
Extra Controller = $49.82
1 Game = $59.82
Xtreme HD HDMI = $19.94
Blutooth Headset(Philips Vox120) = $18.88
PS3 Total = $648.28

Microsoft Xbox 360
Elite 20GB = $349.82
Extra Controller = $37.82
1 Game = $59.82
Xtreme HD HDMI = $19.94
360 Total = $467.40

Don't need a wireless head set. (Comes with a wired headset)
Don't need a Wifi adaptor.(Xbox one still works)
Don't need an HD DVD since 480p DVD looks great on my 720p TV.
Don't need a remote since a controller works as one.
Don't need a big hard drive. I'm not a pack rat, I delete crap.

To be fair, you need to add a year of XBL Gold into that equation. It's free out of the box for the PS3 so if you're making an equal comparison I believe it needs to include online play.

Anonymous said...

Actually, you need to put in there at least 5 years of XBL Gold, just to play online. I say 5 years because that should be the least the Xbox 360 support should last (otherwise it's a ripoff).

Anonymous said...

nice comparison chart. I also agree on the online thing. PSN is free and Xbox Live is $50 per year. I got all systems and my rank is as follows: 1. PS3 2.Wii 3.360

Anonymous said...

PS3 is still a better deal in the long run u get a blu-ray player and considering b-buster a major rental source in US has decided to go with blu-ray instead of HD, and to top it off far more people are buying blu-ray players instead of HD players. Also if sony actually does go thru with the whole digi tuner it will be a great add-on.

live silver is free and gives full access to all marketplace content, live arcade with multiplayer, it just doesnt let you play live enabled games (like geow) online. A nice trade off if you are just interested in getting demos, movies, arcade games and other live content.

The recent amazon deal is really impressive at $600 like the 80gb ps3 and you get more stuff for you $$.

Anonymous said...

there no lag on the ps3
and it free

amazon has:

360 elite 120hdd + hd-dvd add on + 2 HD films for $599 (with voucher of 5 more free films so...

Sony PlayStation 3
80GB = $599.82
Extra Controller = $49.82
1 Game = $59.82
Xtreme HD HDMI = $19.94
Blu-ray Remote = $24.92
Blutooth Headset(Philips Vox120) = $18.88
PS3 Total = $773.20

Microsoft Xbox 360
Elite 120GB + HD DVD = $599.99
Extra Controller = $37.82
1 Game = $59.82
WiFi = $88.82
Wireless Headset = $59.82
360 Total = $846.27

without headset comes to $786.45 (package comes with wired headset so wireless one not a nessessity)

Anonymous said...

Where are people getting this $40 for a new 360 wireless controller? All retail places have it for $50. Also I'm quite positive Wifi adapter is $99 not $88. If your gonna bargain hunt for the 360 you have to do it for the PS3 as well.Why are they adding a game to the PS3? It already comes with Motorstorm. Why don't we just look at retail prices

Sony PlayStation 3
80GB = $600
Extra Controller = $50
Xtreme HD HDMI = $20
Blu-ray Remote = $25
Blutooth Headset(Philips Vox120) = $20
PS3 Total = $715

Microsoft Xbox 360
Elite 120GB + HD DVD = $600
Extra Controller = $50
1 Game = $60
WiFi = $100
1 year of Live = $50
Play and charge kit = $20
360 Total = $ 880

880-715=$175 difference. Thats 3 games, or 3 more controllers, or 3.5 years of Live, If you really are missing out on that 40GB add-on a UBS HDD for about 50 bucks and your still spending over 100 more on the 360. MS ripped all of you off!

Anonymous said...

Wow lots of fanboys on tonight sheesh. Why would you buy a headset for the 360 it comes with one. The 360 also comes with a game at most store's. Anyway i believe the PS3 is the better deal no doubt about it if you must have high definition movie's, however it all come's down to the games and this holiday season the 360 has the superior line-up Bio-shock ///halo3///mass-effect//two-worlds//PGR-3 and all the great third party game's are coming out on both(though most come out on 360 first then release a couple weeks or months later on PS3) and lets not forget if you are a sport's gamer that EA's title run at 60fps on the 360 and 30fps on PS3. The only big exclusives for sony this year are Heavenly sword//drake's uncharted///ratchet and clank//warhawk// I didnt include lair because it has been getting bad review's. So this year 360 has better game's Next year however is a much different story and sony how a much better 2008 in my opinion.Sorry about the wall of text im tired. Now proceed to flame away fanboys!!!!

Anonymous said...

You don't need HDMI wires for the 360...M$ was at least generous enough to give us that...

Wireless headset? Who cares, not like you're running wires from the console...

My plain DVD's look fine on my plain TV.

I'll wait until the "next" next gen consoles to upgrade my DVD or whatever they'll be called by then. Until then.... Xbox wins by a nose.

Oh, and the Premium 360 is fine too, don't need 120gb....20's good...just delete crap. Once IPTV comes out however, it might be time for an upgrade, but i've got Win Media Center, so I assume I can just use that on my laptop which is networked to my 360.

ps3 - good for blu ray, but not for games at the moment. Give it a year to catch up.
xbox 360 - out in front at the moment and with games like Bioshock, Halo 3, mass effect, coming very soon it looks good for microsoft!!

enough b*tching fanboys...

people that says no one cares about 360s games are just stupid.the 360 game hold the majority of the top ten spots in sells and that's a fact,and i'm tired of hearing about blueray and hd-dvd because they will both loose because the majority of people will stick with regular dvds,and for the people that don't know,downloading movies off the internet is catching on a lot faster the blueray and hd-dvd, and yes some sites offer hd quality movies and it's a lot cheaper to go and rent them and you don't have to worry about mailing or bringing them back,and you could watch it on your big tv to,so like it or not downloading is the future of movies, and blueray and hd-dvd will only be good to hold information,and if i'm wrong but i dout it,it will take at least 10 or more years before any one of the new formates outsells regular dvd and about that time or sooner they will have another formate that holds a lot more information then them 2 because they have a company right now that invented a new format that holds more information then blueray now and they are still working and testing it right now

i have 2 360s from launch and i never had 1 single problem with anyone of them because i keep it where it could get lots of air and i've had gold from the first day and it never laged once on me.the online service for the 360 is a lot better then the ps3 and i'm tired of sony fanboys saying that the ps3s is better because it's free but have you ever heard of the old saying,you get what you paid for.
I'm tired of hearing that my system is better then yours because it's the same thing as saying my daddy can beat up your daddy and it's childish.Both systems are really equal in power,the 360 do some things better then the ps3 and the ps3 do some things better the 360 and that's a fact.why can't fanboys admit that both systems are good and when one system is better in one thing or has a damn good game admit it instead of saying it's no good or it's not true just because i's on the system that you don't have.i admitt that kill zone 2 will be awsome and it looks damn good,but every article that i read that was posted by a sony fan always says that the 360 only have shooting games,well it's not true only 16% of games on the 360 are shooters,or they say that halo 3 sux and the graphics are just like halo 2,well that's false to because every one that played it behind closed door recent and every article says that the halo 3 graphics are very impressive and it's a big improovement,or they say that the 360 doesen't have any good games,well if that's true then the ps3 must not have any good games either because the majority of the games will be on both system except a few and out of the few that will only be on the 360 or the ps3,some of the exclusives on both systems will sux but some on both system will be good .h*ll i think killzone 2 and laire will be real good games on the ps3 but the 360 has halo 3 and mass effect to make it even,but both systems have or had games that i think was over rated,the 360 had prey and the ps3 have mgs4 and i played all the other mgs and they all suxed but that's my oppinion but i admit that the ps3 has some damn good games that i like to play because it's true,i'm not going to say all the games on the ps3 sux just because i don't have one like some fanboys do from both sides because it makes no sence to act like a bunch of kids,just say the truth and everyone will get along alot better and all of this stupid name calling will stop so we could all have grownup conversations instead of acting like a bunch of kids.

It's so obvious if viewed as a longterm prospect. 360 is now...PS3 is the future. The 360 has quality games, but it's build quality screams 'Rushed, Cheap and very unreliable'. If the 360 were a life support machine, anyone needing it would be dead within months. Surprised at Billie Gates!! PS3 is a luxury item a present, but lacks AAA games. Argument over!! .. I own both so definately not FANBOY!! I'm British, and we brits know quality...not that our American cousins don't....

Anonymous said...

Microsoft were so desperate to build the xbox brand, they built a machine made from recycled plastic, stuffed with pc hardware, a good GPU (for now!) and a soon to be obsolete dvd drive (that has occasional problems reading MS's own official disc's). MS have never made money on hardware, and seem content with software revenue. Sony will own 2008, 360 haS PEAKED, SONY are just getting started. After paying hundreds of dollars on hardware why should we pay for xbox live. gimme a break!! I agree with the British persons statement. Xbox = 100m sprinter. PS3 = Long distance runner. I too own both, but i rarely play 360 because its too loud for movies and gets sooo hot! i'm convinced it is solely responsible for climate change... peace, 2 fingers FANBOY!!

Anonymous said...

I made my choice about the two systems when I went to circuit city and watch both systems on the identical hd tv's right next to each other play the same game and it was abvious that 360 had better graphics. I have always been a playstation man. ps2 far outweighed xbox but with the 360 has really energized the race. There will always be a close race i believe. HD-DVD vs. blu-ray? who cares? It will be years before standard dvd's are replaced. The only advantage I really give to 360 is being made by microsoft who is obviously much more powerful than sony(maybe apple should make a video game) and windows media center linked through the 360. That is one of my favorite options. I dont even have to rent dvd's anymore. Just download em on my pc and watch em on my big sceen in hd through 360. Sony can't touch that.

Anonymous said...

Sony probably don't wanna touch that. Well i'm glad you're happy with 360. But consider this...

1. Developers/Publishers are milking your 'pity about those red lights!' 360 to fund future PS3 games.

2. MS will replace 360 with a successor by 2009/10 because they care for the buck, not the consume, and desire to be 1st to market...remember the original Xbox early demise...!

3. You will soon change your tune when/if your hardware dies on you.

360 is a Timed bomb waiting to frag you....

I'm involved in the industry, neither with Sony nor MS, trust this if nothing else.

Anonymous said...

maybe they should add $80 to PS3 for an 300gb external harddrive? I mean that's how much I bought mine for and it works fine with my ps3. so 360 gb total completely trumps the 360.

Anonymous said...

I went out and bought both. I can't stand it when a game comes out for only one system. Now i'm just waiting for my alienware computer to come in. But heres my thoughts!

PRICE range the ps3 was less money. After upgrading the 360 HD dvd player that doesn't even compete with the Blue Ray Disk. And buying a game because the system didn't come with one.

GRAPHICS ps3 is hands down better. But that also depends on your tv. Most the games are 720. So if you have a hdtv 1080* like mine you get lots of lines in game play. But theres a few games out there that support 1080. Its the same with 360. I'm not a fan of the lighting effects and how things get blurry in a distance on the 360. I'm Extremely happy with the texture detail on the Ps3! And how everything is extra sharp no matter the distance!

GAMEPLAY ha depends on the game. or what controller you like to use. Obviously you would play one that looked better. So again ps3 if its a multi console game.

Controller. Hands down for the 360. not only is the wire ALOT longer for the controller when you plug it in. But the ps3 controller seems to go in and out. Rarely!!!

Online i don't even have to answer that

BTW. I wasn't a huge Sony fan. PS2 seemed like a waste to me. It was just a better buffered ps1. They cleared up the boxy textures and made a few better models. Awesome! But it seemed like i was playing a Dreamcast or Sega Saturn when it came out. But these are all graphic comments* I just didn't like how every Playstation i had felt like it left something out. When I bought ps3 i was nervous. But when i got home and threw in a game I knew i made the right choice. Once the new halo comes outs for 360 and i get bored. I will most likly use it as a paper weight. its matches my desk colors. Or possibly sale it to buy more ps3 games :)

Anonymous said...

I wish all the dumb fanboys would stop with these pointless debates. Fact, the 360 is cheaper. Fact, the 360 has more games. Fact, the 360 has better games. So the 360 is the best. Anyone who disagrees doesnt know about videogames. The only thing that matters is the games. We are gamers, we play games and systems are only as good as there GAMES!!!! The ps3 is a GREAT console and in time may become the better console. There game line up is looking better and better everyday but until that day 360 is number 1. (if anyone is wondering why the wii was left out of this unnecessay post its because the Wii is a joke in Comparison. The PS3 and 360 Are Amazing consoles and the wii is just a new way to play LAST GEN games

Anonymous said...

I find this funny... If you are not interested in HD DVD or Blu-Ray then the price for the 360 is about $50 cheaper because you wouldn't buy it... And you get 40 Gb more storage... And don't need the wireless headset because it comes with a wired one.

Also, there is a much higher selection of games for 360. The games mentioned are only the new ones coming out this year.

Not that it matters because I have already chosen, but I hate it when I see biased reviews comparisons... Also, what if you are buying a more then one console and don't need storage on it... Then, you could buy a 360 core and elite for way less then two PS3s...

The comparison comes down to what you value and what content is available. Not a single chosen configuration as this reviewer did.

Anonymous said...

You don't need a next gen dvd player, you can now get a dvd upscaler to 1080p for as lower than $67 on amazon as well as other sites. I don't know about you but I am not ready to make the jump to "next gen dvd" yet so I will stick to the cheaper upscalers that will give me the same picture quality as hd-dvd and blue-ray. So 360 elite $449 (comp usa and circuit city)
extra controler 37.82
game $ 60
wifi 88.82= $702.64

Don't need xbox gold because siver is just fine for me (since it is free and gives me everything that gold does except for multiplayer, I don't need to do multiplayer ).

Anonymous said...

Not an apples to apples comparison!

How do you compare the pricing for:

1) Hard drive: 60GB-80GB(PS3)vs 20GB-120GB(360)
2) HD-DVD (360) vs Blu Ray (360) readers
You can't!

IT's about the games people. That's why we call ourselves gamers! If i wanted a freaking movie player, than i will buy a seperate one. Why burn out the console drive to play movies? They dont last forever. Stream the movies (via media center) off your PC's hard drive are a better choice. It will probably replace both formats in the future.

PS3 = still too expensive for gaming. Good value for HD movie player.

Xbox360 = overall best price, just buy what you need. Dvd and media center (WMV and HD-WMV)extension player.

Anonymous said...

A tiny little ity bity thing that was left out and I know is irrelevant but I'm still going to throw out there, ps3 can also use wireless internet out of the box and for xbox you'd have to pay almost $100 to get that.

Anonymous said...

Multiplatform games look better on the PS3???? what planet have you been living on. All the major game site's do comparison's and they all say they look inferior to the 360 version. I dont mind if the PS3 is your favourite console thats is a ok but dont spread lie's. If you judge by what is available right now 360 is much better way more game's cheaper and games tend to look better on the 360 (could be lazy dev's)2008 may be a different story but as of right now 360 is the champ and website worth thgeir weight will tell ya that and anyone who denie's is straight up fanboy!!!

Anonymous said...

Adding a headset for the 360 is stupid because it comes with one. This is more fair:

Sony PlayStation 3
80GB = $599.82
Extra Controller = $49.82
Xtreme HD HDMI = $19.94
Blutooth Headset(Philips Vox120) = $18.88
PS3 Total = $690

Microsoft Xbox 360
Premium 20GB = $349.82
Extra Controller = $37.82
HD DVD Add-on = $179.82
1 Game = $59.82
WiFi = $88.82
360 Total = $715

With PS3, you get an extra 60GB of storage for a little less $$. Not bad.

Anonymous said...

its fairly clear that this analysis was set up to favor the PS3. certainly the headset, hdmi cable, wifi adapter (unless every single gamer on here never played a PS2 or Xbox game online, i simply unplugged my xbox and plugged in my 360) and really even the HD-DVD drive are unnecessary. this list simply attempts to make everything add up to what is required to be purchased for the PS3. why not put the Wii in the comparison and include a $1000 stand alone hi-def movie player to make it seem ridiculously expensive too?

or try adding up the real cost of entering next gen gaming, excluding unnecessary accessories:

PS3 = $500
HDMI cable = $20
1 game = $60
Total = $630

360 = $350
1 game = $60
Total = $410

that comparison of entry costs clearly shows a $220 difference to jump into high def gaming and the 360 still has cheaper options because at wal mart a game comes bundled with the $350 price or you could get the core for only $279, saving another $70 (granted a memory card will cost you close to $40).

OK, you can add $50 for x-box live gold membership or the cost of an HD-DVD drive if you want (or you could just rent HD movies on xbox-live and forgo the drive). of course you get a free headset and free remote control with the 360 which you would need to add onto the PS3 to be "equal".

my point is, everyone just needs to take a step back and decide what you want to get out of the system you buy. certainly i did not buy a wii for high-def movies. i did not buy a 360 for high def movies either. i did buy a PS3 for high def movies but thats about all its good for right now because there are only 2 decent games out for it that are not also available on the 360.

if you want to say the PS3 is the "best value" please precede it by stating this is a comparison to assemble a "full HD movie playback system with accessories to permit online play of video games" instead of a "gaming deal" post because that is what was done here.

anyone who objectively reviews the systems at this point in the life cycle can ONLY conclude: 1) Wii is king for casual games and getting non-gamers involved in video games due to its simple & intuitive controls, 2) PS3 is the king of high def movie playback because it includes the BD drive displaying movies in glorious 1080p, and 3) 360 is the king of hardcore gaming because it has the largest library of games and a great online experience. only time will tell what the future has in store for each system but thats the current state of the market, case closed. cheers!

No, fuck PS3 and ANYTHING $ony for that matter. Let me remind all of you naysayers that this is the company that ABSOLUTELY RUINED a cultural phenomenon with Star Wars Galaxies(not to mention their Everquest series and The Matrix failures) and is now running your pathetic online community($ony Online Entertainment). This is also the company that RUINED Minidisc because they were foolish and greedy. Now this format is obsolete because of MP3. Thanks a HELL of a lot $ony!!!!!

Howard Stringer the CEO of your beloved $ony even ADMITTED they are in DEEP SHIT in a 60 minutes interview last year. They want PS3 to save them and it's NOT happening. Their sales are WEAK and their game lineup is the WORST on the market. Why in the hell should I even CONSIDER the PS3?!?!?!? Because I get a Blue-Gay player?!?!?!? Oh come on!!!!! They can't do better than that?!?!?!? No they can't. SAD.....BUT.....TRUE!!!!!

$ony has ALWAYS been about empty promises people. ANYBODY who disputes that is a FOOL. Sorry $ony fanbois. You got the short end of the stick this time because some of you are too naive to see the TRUTH.

END of story.

Don't forget DVD upscaling .. at least a $100 separate unit at most the value of a new upscaling DVD player... now included in the PS3.

I prefer the 360 over the ps3 because it is less money and the graphics are pretty well the same. nhl 2k8 is going to be amazing. watch the vids and youll see. the equiptment in 2k8 are much better than ea's nhl08 and the new pro stick in 2k8 is closing in on ea's pro stick. 2k8 rules ball diccks and vaginall tubes around the world.

its great how people get mad over these "GAMES" thers nothing like surfing the web and finding some children that think they no something about shopping for a deal that is really worth what mommys paying for or daddy. but really you cant say anything if youdidnt pay for what your arguing about.if u workd hard for what u got and didnt want to regret buying anything with your money u did the research u asked around and even noticed how certain other older consoles are compeletly useless, u shud of made the rite choice its like comparing to fighters one fighter might seem like he is bettr but its only a strategy to make the other boxer scared when the bell rings and every one wants to c that knockout we will c who comes out champ the well seasond veteren that our granparents no about or the flashy rookie that todays youth puts so much trust in when i bought my console i looked for an investment not something that younger people thought was cool its all strategy for the buyer and the seller i think both are great and both will produce gameing that will be out of this world but only one was prvliged enuf to be bought with my hard earnd money and that my fellow onliners is the sony playstation3

in the whole "xbox games look better than ps3" in all of the comparisons, the difference between the twos graphics is something that you would NEVER EVER notice unless they are put right up next to each other and you spend a good amount of time looking at the two side by side.

another little fact, in another year or two, any decent game on your xbox (decent meaning a game with any detailed textures of any considerable length) is going to HAVE to use multiple dvds to even fit, while ps3's blue ray dvds are going to have more than enough room for whatever the hell they want.

i can stream any media i want using tversity, (which i had maybe one or two problems with when i first started using it) through my ps3's built in wifi connection.

my controllers came with a built in rechargeable battery.

my guitar hero 3 is going to come with a WIRELESS guitar (microsoft hates you, so you get stuck with a wired one, and then have to pay 20 bucks more for a wireless guitar)

i never have to pay a dime to play online, and playstation home is going to be free as well.

nearly any game that i think looks decent for xbox 360 (bioshock, halo, gears of war) is going to be on my PC sooner or later, so why even bother?

I can rest assured that there isnt a 33% chance that my system is going to kill itself, and then im going to have to send it in for a repair.

when its time for me to get a larger hard drive, i can buy one for incredibly cheap, and install it into my ps3, good luck paying for an expensive HDD because again... microsoft hates you.

soon enough my ps3 is going to even double as a DVR. how can i complain?

any bluetooth headset will work with my ps3

i will be able to use a keyboard and mouse to play UT3, and MOST LIKELY be able to play against PC users as well.

anyone saying they dont need a harddrive for their xbox 360, just wait until developers are forced to release downloads so that they can get their games onto the console, due to size issues with disks... they are trying to avoid it right now, but its only a matter of time.

well xbox 360 already has a game that plays against pc users online, can't remember what it is now i dont get into those games. I still haven't heard anyone come up with a way to instantly stream music, movies, pictures, any media i have on my pc streams through the 360 with nothing extra. And to address the blu-ray disk for games. I've read dozens of articles from game developers about how the blu-ray disk is too big. They dont want to use it because the actual games dont take up 1/3 of the space on the disk and it costing too much to produce. I HIGHLY doubt 360 users will ever need two disks to play a game. Also someone said he would wait for certain games to come out on pc....why would you want to play a game on the pc rather than playing in high def on a big screen. I wanted the ps3 for sooooo long. I swore I would never switch to microsoft but sony d**ked around for so long that they really screwed their fan base. I didn't end up buying a system until the ps3 came out, but for my dollar that yes i work for my mommy didnt buy mine youngsters, I wanted the 360. It will be quite a long time before sony can catch up on the games. When GTA4 was originally announced they were gonna be 360 first. No realease scheduled for the playstation. Don't what changed but a lot of games have been like that. I'm sure ps3 users will defend their system to the death and why shouldnt they. Just like 360 owners weve spent close to a thousand dollars for the system and the games we have now. On a side note I think we can all agree on one thing If you wanna save some money on games guys go out and sign up for gamefly, best thing ive ever done for my 360.

Well, fanboys=lame. If I want to watch DVDs I use the awesome power of the internet, or this magical thing called a DVD PLAYER. Using consoles for playing DVDs puts them through unnecessary wear. So, as said already, stfu about the DVD crap. I don't know what everyone is talking about with their price points, I paid like 600 dollars for everything I needed for the 360. While the PS3 would of set me back like $700. Not to mention I already have 3 great games for the 360, and havn't seen a SINGLE good game for the PS3. And my Wii, which set me back a whole $300 doll-hairs has better games coming out this year. Hell, VC games on the Wii have sold better than any PS3 games that have come out so far. Does anyone know why? It's because graphics don't mean shit. The Mario games have better gameplay than Resistance:FoM ever even thought about having. The top 5 games coming out this year aren't even on the PS3. I've played the H3Beta, and that (uncomplete)game was AMAZING. I just played the BioShock demo, and the my jaw actually dropped during the first cutscene. SSBB looks fantastic and I can't wait to spend hours upon hours playing it. Have you even been to the smash dojo? Metroid Prime 3 may just turn out to be the best FPS experience ever. And Mario Galaxy's graphics not only look great, but it brings 3d platforming to a whole new level. If MP3 sucks, then Heavenly Sword might make it to the top five of 07'.

I trust MS over apple, but when it comes to games i think alot of ppl will trust sony and flip the bird to bill gates.

OK look. This comparison will be quite dated come november, which is when the elite will come with Forza and Marvel UA, http://theangrypixel.com/blog/2007/08/13/xbox-360-holiday-bundles/
So there's your extra hundred bucks. Add in the best unified online gaming service out there...Xbox Live which is clearly an added value because it works and is a part of every game.

If you take out the Wifi and wireless headset (why do you need one? The wired one hooks up to your wireless controller), the 360 price goes down to $727, AND still has 40Gb over the PS3.

You can expand the PS3 HD whenever you like to the largest 2.5" drive you can afford. Streaming pictures, music and video off your home PC is already included in the PS3 with any DNLA compliant software (i.e., Media Player 11, etc.). Puring gaming is where consoles started, but even the poster above who cited 'the games' as being the driver for which platform is better is dead wrong with where things are headed. MS and Sony are now solely focused on how to expand their systems. They are no longer banking on them just playing games. Internet access, mass storage and other media center capabilities are the focus of both. It is clear that they want them to function just like our PCs, information sharing and communication tools that also play games for another form of entertainment. Therefore, just like buying computers, you get what you like to look at and what you can expand 'cheaply' to keep up. PS3 is a little ahead in that category and can do a lot more, we just need to wait. Digital tuner will allow us to skip streaming captured TV from PCs, and allow us to capture directly on the PS3. Funny thing is, PS3 now gets updates to software and capabilities quicker than MS patches. It is nuts, but also fun as we PS3 owners get more and more functionality out of our systems. Xbox owners have been seeing more functionality from their online community for some time. PS3 owners are just excited about what is yet to come. I personally want one system that I can use for music, pictures, movies, and controller based gaming. Either PS3 or Xbox works today, but PS3 adds those extra touches that make it a "Lexus" vs. Xbox as a "Toyota". You can't go wrong with either system, but Sony has a TON of improvement in store for the PS3 that will keep all us owners on the edge of our seats.

everyone keeps saying how the ps3 has so much in store for them. They have a lot of great things coming in the near future. That is how sony lost me in the first place launching a year later than 360. I would be outraged if I spent that much on a ps3 and my best argument is "just wait" "you'll see". I live right now and right now I have way more capability with my 360 than i could with that ps3. Also you all that are complaining about paying for online gaming on 360....there is a very good reason for that. we actually have other people to play against. it's real simple 360 has more games and TONS more people online to play against. and as far as our consoles being turned into media centers....you're right they are. Who do we trust more to make our pc's sony or MICROSOFT? thats a pretty easy comparrison. How many people actually own one of them vaio's? 360 has the media sharing locked down. I didnt have to download no software or anything like tey did for ps3. back to this dvd thing, I agree with whoever said that runing dvd's causes unneeded wear on your console. Also I suggest everyone just sit back for a year or two on the high def dvd market and wait to see who comes out on top. anyone who didnt have their mom buy their game is old enough to remember beta max tapes im sure. And we all saw how it stormed on the market. everyone thought is was the future and we all see how fast it crashed also. The same will happen to one of the dvd platforms just not sure which one yet. Id rather wait to se rather than buying a console for a dvd player and having to turn around and put it in the back of my clost with my beta player.

Does the fact that the ps3 is a blue ray player not factor into this? I mean everything is soon going to be Blu ray and they throw one in for 100 dollars more, it's an amazing deal. Especially because all the big studios only support blue ray. 360 has no HD movie capabilities unless you buy the add on for 179.99. Even then its HD DVD, which is total shit. No studio support means no good movies for 360, and even if there were they would be hard to rent, since Blockbuster is blue ray exclusive. It's a shame you people aren't making this a bigger deal.

I love the fact that a lot of people here forget that when you INVEST money in something means your looking ahead. The PS3 components are geared at the future then current gen. Some games might be better but the 360 has also had a year more on market. And it also falls to developers when they start equiping for the PS3 the games will get better. No person I've heard or read has debated that the first company games for Sony WILL blow the doors off the 360 no doubt. But Sony needs to work at and help the 3rd parties bring their quality up. But I will never pay for a 360 cause Microsofts history of leaving consumers behind. "Oh sorry sir we can't help you unless you upgrade your computer." and let's not even start about the Xbox paperweight I have that Microripe isn't supporting. You go ahead and support a company that in 5 years won't be supporting you. That's your choice. So you Xbox lovers that say were gamers so let's judge the games, Sony has been saying we want games outside the box i.e. Eye of Judgment, Little Big Planet, Calling All Cars and etc. I haven't heard Xbox say anything in regards to let's do something a little different. You stick to your same old repackaged games I want something a little different every once in awhile.

so many fanboys found this thread..... but anyhow, on the 360, i dont care about movies, its a game console, the wireless xbox mic sucks horribly, comes with a HDMI cable, so if you look at it from that angle, Microsoft Xbox 360
Elite 120GB = about 400$, extra controller = abot 40$, they now come with games, if you look in the right places, comes with an hdmi cable, if ur smart you can just put ur xbox near the modem\router\pc, then you dont need a wifi adapter, the wireless 360 headset fucking sucks bigtime, so its not worth getting, not to mention the normal headset comes with the xbox, so xbox price for gaming, i state gaming because most ps3 fanboys think there so great kuz they get a blu ray dvd player.... wel great, but i wana game not watch movies, around 440$, if u wana add in a year of xbl, then around 500$, the xbox game lineup is much better,(granted were in another game drought) the rrod, yes sucks, but what do you expect when the system is only 440$ for everything you need to play it, so yes, ps3 is great for the person who wants more for their money, but the xbox is there for gamers, kuz frankly, i prefer xbl over sony's live, even if i have to pay alittle extra, because its so nicly put together, and easy to use, with no bs
